Godwin Hampton dies aged 64

Founder member Godwin Hampton died on April 11, 2016. He will be sorely missed by his family and loved ones, but also leaves a void in the hearts and minds of the more mature classic, vintage and military vehicle enthusiasts.

Godwin was a walking encyclopaedia on all matters to do with classic military vehicles. Whether they were cars, motorcycles, guns, cannons, trucks, cranes or whatever, he was able to come up with all sorts of facts and specifications in just a few seconds. He was also heavily involved in all sorts of military re-enactments where he would dress up in authentic military uniform and play his part to help keep Malta’s collective wartime memories alive.

But Godwin will be most remembered to us as one of the founding fathers of the Federazzjoni Maltija Vetturi Antiki (FMVA) way back in 1998. As Chairman of the Military Vehicles Collectors Club, Godwin gave much support during the endless meetings over many months during which time we wrought far-reaching policies out of mere ideas and concepts.

Godwin was also a member of the Vintage Vehicle Board for some time where again, he lent his support, especially when it came to military vehicles.

To his family our deepest condolences.

Farewell Godwin, we will never forget you.
